So, i thought it was finally time to update my livejournal about everything thats been going on. Whilst alot of people like to update they're journal much more regularly than me, i like to think that when i do update mine i have something great to write. unfortunately this isnt usually the case. Anyway , i think this is reasonably interesting compared to practically every other journal update ive ever written, except possibly the one with the picture of mike stood next to a life size bee in a take away at 1am.
So, where to start? January i suppose. This was only just over a month ago and i cant seem to remember all that much of it, except seeing Houston Calls with Hellogoodbye, and a Dave Melillo and Hit The Lights headline show due to shaant having laryngitis or something. I also did lots of exams which went okay and went to lots of parties which also went okay.
So, February. This is much more interesting and about 100 times longer. (maybe more?) Basically, from about Christmas i had been counting down the days till i got to see brand new, checking they're website way too much and listening to them probably ten times as much as i listened to all my other music put together. When february 6th finally came around (after not sleeping at all on February 5th in excitement) i skipped my last lesson at college to go hang out outside the Apollo at about 2pm with Cam, her friend and some weird bloke that no one really liked. It was absolutely freezing, and they're was practically no one else there at 2pm. or 3pm. or 4pm.
Anyway, after a nice (first time for everything) McDonalds, and some amusing signs with "tortoises going fast" and "birdies going cheep" written on them, Vin finally came out to talk to us. I asked him a question about lyrics in untitled, which he didn't really have a clue about, but he did tell me about how they wrote the song, which was cool. He seemed pretty bemused that we'd turned up so early to meet his little band playing some show thousands of miles away from where they live, and after realising i had nothing to get signed, ended up getting my debit card signed. Hopefully i wont be needing to show it to anyone in a bank anytime soon. None of the rest of the band came out to talk to us (which in my experience, over 5 hours is really weird) but we did get to listen to the soundcheck through the back doors of the Apollo. They played through Welcome To Bangkok twice, Jesus, Degausser. Not The Sun and Handcuffs. Me and Cam got pretty excited that we got to hear Not the Sun and Handcuffs before practically anyone else in the UK, whilst everyone else seemed unappreciative. It seems strange to me how big Brand New have got, yet how small they wish to remain. It's almost as if they would rather be sat at home doing nothing all day than being out here playing their wonderful music for us.
After hassling mewithoutyou's merch guy for a bit about tour posters we decided to cue up. There were already a few people in front of us so we ended up on the second row back (having gotten a lovely red tour poster), but the people infront of us were tiny so it didn't matter. Brand New played through their set in chronological order, 5 songs from your favourite weapon, all of deja entendu, minus good to know, and then 5 songs from the new album too, including welcome to bangkok, the first time it had ever been played live.
After the show i had to wait ages for a taxi, and had to give the taxi driver directions to where we were as he obviously wasnt very good at his job. When i got home i spent about ten minutes trying to get my tour poster to stay on my wall as it had been rolled up, and kept falling off. Anyway, enough about being in manchester...
Having failed to get tickets to +44, i went to see gym class heroes on Friday 9th February with Paul Barton. We ate a really good subway, courtesy of my vouchers and then went to the gig. I think its pretty important to talk about what i eat in my journal. Hangar 18 were funny, not really in a good way. Madina lake were pretty good, and gym class were pretty exceptional. We spent about 2 hours trying to get home, missing all kinds of buses and trains in the process, eventually getting home at 1am and watching family guy.
Sunday (11th) morning i woke up at about 6am, ridiculously excited for seeing brand new again. I dont really like going long distances on my own (e.g., making my own way to leeds last year with about 100kg of stuff), so luckily i was getting the coach down with Tom to birmingham, and meeting Cam there (after she'd finished work) and meeting becka at the venue. When we got to birmingham, we thought it'd be good to walk to our travelodge, which took about half an hour and involved lots of dual carriageways and big junctions, and asking peopel with lairy brummy accents which way to go. When we did get to the travelodge (conveniently opposite Sainsbury's Local, which are literally round every corner in the south) we found we had a nice big room, but other than that the facilities basically consisted of 1 vending machine. Luckily we were only staying one night. After buying some nice tea of pre grated cheese and tortilla wraps, 26 packets fo crisps and 5 bottles of buck's fizz (Tom's idea) I called for a taxi, and after great difficulty in talking to someone from Birmingham managed to order one to the academy. Once we got there we met Becka and went inside.
The venue itself is pretty cool but it has a pretty big problem in being sideways, seemingly like most southern venues. The problem was that the stage wasn't anywhere near as big as the width of the room, so people at the sides couldn't see that well, unless they were tall like me. Anyway, we tried to get to the front but got so squashed that we had to go back after about 5 minutes - and even that seemed ridiculously hard. After a few pints of water we went to stand at the side, where i could see pretty well, but Becca and Cam couldn't really. Everyone in the venue seemed to be really bored, and not bothered about Brand New. Needless to say we (especially Becka) were pretty into it, and having travelled quite a way for the show didn't want it ruining by a load of boring southern posers. We did get a lot of funny looks singing along, whilst everyone near us just stood around looking gormless, but i can honestly say i don't care. I mean, why should I? It's not as if im ever likely to see any of those people again, and i don't know any of them so i'll act as stupidly as i want. Brand New played the same set as Manchester, but they seemed much more lively in Birmingham. Afterwards, we went back to the travelodge, and built a fort out of the bed sofa, pull out bed and all the sheets we had. Whilst me and Becka had a bottle of Buck's Fizz between us, tom proceeded to drink 3 and a half bottles of it, mostly whilst lying in the bathtub.
I woke up the next morning (well i didn't as i hadn't been asleep really) to find Tom drinking the remnants of a bottle of Buck's Fizz, which he had previously found out didn't taste too good after being boiled in a kettle. We had about an hour to get ready, and Tom thought he'd make 4 packets of 8p instant noodles in his lunchbox, as we didn't have any plates or bowls. It turns out his lunchbox had a small hole in it, so the noodle water started to go everywhere. He ended up putting it all in the bin, which looked really horrible. Becka tidied up a bit, turning the sofa the right way, but the rest of us didn't really bother. Tom stacked up his Buck's Fizz bottles on the window sill for some poor cleaner to find, and took the final one with him to drink in the taxi. (yes, he was drinking at 10am) Tom got his coach back to Manchester, drinking Buck's Fizz out of a Pepsi bottle on the way, whilst Me, Cam and Becka got on the coach to London.
Cam was sat on her own watching a DVD on her Mac, and had two horribly obese, lairy brummy children with proper brummy accents sat behind her. Their parents, who we're equally vile were sat the back, and seemed to have a constant supply of processed food going towards their already tubby children. Anyway, after about ten minutes on teh coach, one of the kids, no older than ten stands up and starts watching Cam's DVD over her shoulder. The DVD wasn't exactly child friendly, but non the less, this boy of no more than ten, who i've jsut realised may have been that one on the news who weighed 16 stone, carried on watching this DVD on and off for about an hour and a half. I kept texting Cam telling her to turn round, but he always sat down just before she did. The smaller child wouldn't turn teh sound on his PSP down, and their Mum couldn't help but have loud brash speakerphone conversations. They were probably the worst family i've ever seen, and i hope somehow they read this.
Becka carried on finishing my sentences with Brand New lyrics , and sang Car most of the way to London which was nice. When we finally got to London we met Mike, and found a sign for coaches on the coach station floor in huge letters reading "dead slow", which whilst us northerners found completely normal, Becka found funny because aparantly saying dead before things is really odd, which, when i think about it is probably true.
Feel free to take a break reading this just about here, as according to word count its already 1700 words long.
Back to London... Becka decided it was probably best to go home for at least one night, and went back to hers, whilst we went to find our Travelodge. When they said City Airport, they really wern't joking. Luckily we had some lovely soundproof windows which seemed to block out the constant noise of planes quite well, which is good as we were actually about 20 metres from the airport. This travelodge was really nice, the lifts actually came within five minutes of pressing the button, and their was a nice, reasonably priced bar, and a restaraunt and some other stuff. Round the corner we later found the Esso garage that Me, Tom, Sinead and BacCA had walked to in September from the next travelodge, althuogh thats a stpry in itself.
Monday night we went out for a Chinese, which, whilst nice and filling, wasn't all that appetising, and the waiters seemed pretty drunk. After that we went for a walk around Central London, and had a look in a few shops which was fun. when we got back me and Mike made a fort (again), and Mike slept in it whilst I finally managed to sleep in a bed for once. Me and Cam decorated the walls with food menus, a bible (which she wrote notes in for the next peopel to stay), our signs that we made, "Hello, I'm a Joey", and, "Hello, I'm a Cam", and the sign we'd taken from Birmingham academy about Brand New.
After a good nights sleep we woke up and headed over Hammersmith, where alot more people were queing up really early for Brand New than had been in Manchester. Becka was pretty near the front of the que, but her friend seemed pretty pissed off that we were pushing in with them. We did bring some food with us though from Tesco, and had a small picnic which we shared. Becka also had fig roles which made me very very happy indeed. Mike went off to meet Sinead off her coach, whilst me and Cam que'd up in the cold. It took Mike and Sinead absolutely ages to get across London and back, and they only arrived back at about 6:30. I spent about 4 hours having the piss taken out of my accent by Becka and her friends which was pretty funny really. Mike decided to sell his ticket to a tout, and went to meet his cousin, whilst Sinead pushed in right at the front of the que infront of 8000 other people. good for her.
When we got inside, we all had to sit on the floor, but Sinead and Cam were being silly sat on the far right, whilst i was sat right in the middle with Becka. Mewithoutyou were actually okay that night, as they'd all had haircuts since Manchester, even Cam's Dad who was playing drums, although he had decided to wear a vest that night which was a step in the wrong direction. Brand New all came on for Mewithoutyou's last song, which was cool, and Brand New, although playing the same set again, were absolutely amazing. Better than anything i'd ever seen before. I was right at the front, and got loads of great photos. After the show we had to get Becka's bag, and ended up missing the train back to hers, so we just about made it back to the travelodge where thankfully Cam was still awake to let us in. We ended up on the last tube and the last bus so its pretty lucky that we got back at all. It turns out that Mike had decided to stay at his cousins that night, and as Cam and Sinead we're already falling asleep in the bed, Me and Becka decided to sleep in the fort, although she got the comfier side. At some point Cam had also written, "Cameron stay sleep in bed" on her pillow, and subsequently the next day wouldn't get out of bed for a while.
The next day (Valentine's Day), we all went into London to go shopping for a bit, and i bought everyone Pizza which was very nice of me indeed. After that we went shopping, Mike Cam and Sinead went off together whilst me and Becka went to look for something for me to wear as i hadn't brought enough clothes with me. I ended up buying a cool tshirt with a band of animals on it, and a plain blue hoody. Eventually Becka had to get the tube back to Canning Town to get a lift home with her Dad, and i was so gutted when she left. :(
Soon after that we met Steph at Bond Street and headed to St. James's Park to look at Pelicans. Unfortunately the Pelican's were all on their little island, as it was getting pretty late. We did however see a really friendly and probably rabid squirrel, lots of geese, birds that appeared to have tip-ex on their faces and blu-tac on their feet, white swans, ethnically diverse swans and strange red crested birds. After this, we walked Cam and Steph to the Coach Station and they got the coach back. We then thought it'd be pretty cool to turn up at the Brit Awards, which is exactly what we did. We walked into the red carpet bit, where you always see screaming fans on TV, although it was getting near the end of the arrivals and we only saw Sharon Osbourne, who wouldn't tell me why she always looked angry, and Louie Walsh, who wouldn't tell me why he always looked so happy. After briefly being at the Brit Awards, we got on the wrong tube, and ended up spending a while finding the right one again. I cant express how much i love the tube, even when on the wrong one. It's so good, a train every two minutes, no traffic, not usually that full - practically amazing. And when they are full, it's pretty funny trying to share a bag of grapes across a carriage.
Eventually we ended up back at the travelodge, still with all our signs above the beds, and had a few drinks before going to sleep.
On Thursday Mike was supposed to go home, but due to "severe delays on the cicle line" ended up missing his coach and coming back to the travelodge before having to explain to work why he wouldn't be in tomorrow. When we were ready to go, we went to the Victoria and Albert museum for Sinead to look at some posters. She seemed very very impressed with them. We then tried to get cheap food in South Kensington, which we found pretty hard, but had some nice Baguettes from a shop by the station. See, i'm still mentioning what i eat. I really wanted to go and look at dinosaurs, so we went to the natural history museum which was pretty good, except for how slowly people walk when dinosaurs are involved. Then we looked at whales and stuff before going back to the hotel to get the Lostprophets tickets. We ended up taking quite a while, so missed most of KIGH, but not all of them, which i was pleased about. Enter Shikari were good, and so were Lostpropets, and i've decided i really like all the London venues i've been too, as unlike the ones in Manchester, they're kind of on their side and have wide stages, making it seem smaller and so that everyone can see.
Whilst we were at Lostprophets Mike went somewhere and got quite drunk, and talked to a nice foreign man about a clubnight. Me and Sinead spent about 30 minutes trying to get out of the Astoria, before going for McDonalds with Mike. We then went to the club this guy had been advertising, except i couldn't get in as i didn't have any I.D. , whilst Mike and Sinead did. So we went back to the hotel instead, which was just as well really as i had said i'd meet Becca at 9am the next morning at Canning Town so i could see her again before i went home.
I was ridiculously tired the next day when i got to Canning Town, having remembered most of my stuff, including wall decorations. I met Becka, but we had to wait half an hour to be able to get off peak kid's tickets for the tube. When we finally did, we decided to go to St. James's Park again so i could see the pelicans properly. It was a really nice day, and i got to sit on a bench with a Pelican and spend loas of time with Becka which was really great. It all seemed pretty perfect. Then we went for a wander round central London, not too sure on the specifics of where, before meeting Mike and Sinead to get the coach home. The coach back decided to detour through the greenery of the surrounding area of Milton Keynes, and Mike somehow managed to avoid getting a fine on the met on the way back from Manchester.
So yeah, basically, i had quite a good time, but now really miss Becka. I managed to spend way more money than i hoped i would, but did actually manage to take something home with me that i'd bought, namely a cheesy "I <3 London" t-shirt. I have however already booked my coach ticket's for going back to London to see Becka for a week in Easter, which i can't wait for. It also happens to coincide with the Straylight Run Tour.
I've decided i'm quiting my job in just under a month, so only 7 more shifts for me left ever at Morrisons. I've applied for loads of new jobs, not that i really need one as i have plenty of money for the summer.
At the moment i'm looking forward too...
Leeds Festival
Going To London at easter
Brand New at Give It A Name
Seeing Becka again(probably more than anything)
The Summer
Nice Weather
University
Living on my own
I've only got 8 more weeks in college, which in a way is pretty sad, but i'll be glad to have finished, and once my exams are out of the way i can do whatever i want too all summer, and then move to Leeds and have loads of fun there for at least four years of my life.
Also, before i forget Mike now has a fan club consisting of people called Becca. Hopefully it'll have a myspace soon so you can keep track of Mikes love life using the wonders of the internet.
I've probably written enough now.
